Habitat for Humanity

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church participates in Habitat for Humanity housing builds through the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat, a non-profit with eleven area Lutheran churches as members.  GSLC contributes to the Lutheran Coalition both financially, and through the efforts of GSLC members who volunteer to participate in housing builds.  Additionally, GSLC members participate in annual Lutheran Coalition fund raising events.

Lutheran Coalition for Habitat for Humanity

Dear Supporter of the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat:

The Lutheran Coalition Ministry has helped to build 33 homes for families in our community since its inception in 1994.  We could not have accomplished this without the volunteer and financial contributions from our church family supporters.

I’m sure you have seen the news about the skyrocketing costs of building houses, but how does that affect the Lutheran Coalition? The Lutheran Coalition likes to sponsor a half of a house each year. In 2019, that was $40,000. For this year’s 2021 house, that went up 25% to $50,000. Next year for 2022 it will be a whopping $75,000!

Due to spiking cases of COVID-19, we regrettably need to cancel the Taste of Habitat again for 2021.  The “Taste” has been our major fundraising event for the past 16 years.  Without the funds raised at this annual event, we would not have been able to help these families move out of substandard housing and into a well-constructed home they will own after paying back an interest free mortgage.  These hard-working homeowners also invest 200 volunteer hours in construction of their home and other Habitat houses.

This year, in lieu of the Taste of Habitat, we are holding the second Un-Taste of Habitat on September 17! Nothing will happen on this night! Virtual “tickets” will be $25 as always. Please consider buying tickets or making a donation to support the Lutheran Coalition. To do this, simply make a check out to the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat and place in the church offering or drop off to our Office Administrator. Remember that the Lutheran Coalition is a 501(c)(3) (tax exempt) organization. Then on September 17 from 7PM – 9PM, simply stay at home and eat something you enjoy!

The Lutheran Coalition 2021 annual fundraising events are as follows:

Vino 100 – a wine tasting and small silent auction event held annually at Vino 100, in Alpharetta.  The date for the 2021 event will be provided when it is finalized.

Taste of Habitat – the major annual fundraiser for the Lutheran Coalition is held     annually at the Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta.  It is a fun night for adults consisting of  raffles for a wine collection and a beautiful quilt, an extensive silent auction, trivia games, music and best of all, great food – a taste of favorite recipes from sixty plus   volunteer “chefs” from Lutheran Coalition Churches.

In addition, this year you will have the opportunity to buy a 7-night trip to Tuscany for 4 people for $3000! This is a great deal! Once purchased, this package never expires! Keep your eyes open for additional information.
