The activities planned around “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday (September 8, 2024) is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.
“God’s Work. Our Hands.” Sunday | September 8, 2024
One Service at 10 AM – A quick grab and go lunch provided before heading out to serve.
We are planning some great events for “God’s Work. Our Hands.” Sunday, on September 8th. There will be events at Good Shepherd, but we are also planning events that will take us out into the community to serve. People can choose to go to:
The Oaks Assisted Living on Towne Lake Parkway to make cards with the residents
Visit at members’ houses that cannot attend regularly and chat and sing hymns with them.
Go to Hobgood Park to help clean up the park, paint the trash cans and small landscaping projects. The young children can be under a pavilion with supervision at tables and paint rocks that can be put out to decorate the park.
Help out at Mostly Mutts to help move summer items out of the shopping area and move fall items in from 12-3PM. Space is limited to 15.
We would love to have our members wear their “God’s work. Our Hands.” t-shirts, however you are welcome to participate if you have a yellow shirt or not.
Join with Good Shepherd during the entire month of September in these various ways.
The month of September
Take the month of September to consider a way to use your hands for an organization or an initiative that is close to your heart. Some of the groups at Good Shepherd already have programs in place. Check these out:
Caring for Creation-Contact a company and ask them to suggest changes to help our environment. Read more here.
Lutheran Coalition Habitat for Humanity – Ask how to be a chef to support our latest fundraiser to help us raise money to build a new home in 2025. Make a check out to the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat and place in the church offering or drop off to our Bookkeeper. Read more about this group and their efforts here.
Yarn Angels-Learn to knit or crochet and donate to “The Encouragement Project” – Bring your finished items to the church and we will get them into the hands that need them most. Read more here.
