God’s Work. Our Hands. 2021

The activities planned around “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday (September 12, 2021) is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Join with Good Shepherd during the entire month of September in these various ways.

  1. Purchase items for our in-house service day on September 12. We need: (Please drop off at church during office hours (M-F 9 – 2 PM) or bring on Sunday morning,
  • HE powdered laundry detergent and pods
  • Dryer sheets
  • Freezer Ziploc bags (Quart size)
  • Full sheet sticker printer paper

2. Pray during our 12-hour Prayer Vigil Sept 12th, 12 PM to 12 AM. Let’s join together and pray for the world.

3. Donate to MUST: here are the most needed non-perishable items for September: Towels, Bed sheets – all sizes, underwear- all sizes-for men, boys, and women (do not need girls), tuna, corn, milk, jelly, pinto beans, carrots, hamburger helper, ketchup, oatmeal, salt, snack foods, peas, chunky soup, mustard, alfredo sauce, sugar, oil, syrup, saltines, hominy, pancake mix, mayonnaise, Vienna sausages, flour, hair conditioner

The month of September

  1. Join our social media channels on Facebook or Instagram and participate in a daily activity that uses your hands to do God’s work.
  2. Take the month of September to consider a way to use your hands for an organization or an initiative that is close to your heart. Some of the groups at Good Shepherd already have programs in place. Check these out:
  • Caring for Creation-Contact a company and ask them to suggest changes to help our environment. Read more here.
  • Lutheran Coalition Habitat for Humanity – Support our latest fundraiser to help us raise money to build a new home in 2022. Make a check out to the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat and place in the church offering or drop off to our Office Coordinator. Read more about this group and their efforts here.
  • Yarn Angels-Learn to knit or crochet and donate to “The Encouragement Project” – Bring your finished items to the church and we will get them into the hands that need them most. Read more here.

September 12

  1. Attend worship (8:30 AM and 10:45 AM) and Sunday School (9:45 AM).
  2. Participate in God’s Work. Our Hands activities after both services.
  3. If you signed up for the prayer vigil – pray during your time slot and pass on.

Rest of September

  1. Continue to watch for the daily activities on social media. (Facebook and Instagram).
  2. Make a handprint for the sanctuary doors to illustrate how you have used your hands to do God’s work.
  3. Check out the other initiatives going on at Good Shepherd and get involved.
