As Christians, we are always called to share the Good News. Online technologies are simply the latest and greatest means available…

Christ has no online presence but yours,

No blog, no Facebook page but yours,

Yours are the tweets through which love touches this world,

Yours are the posts through which the Gospel is shared,

Yours are the updates through which hope is revealed.

Christ has no online presence but yours,

No blog, no Facebook page but yours.

[“The Social Media Gospel,” by Meredith Gould]

The purpose of a social media presence for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is to:

  • proclaim the Gospel using available, suitable tools;
  • advance the mission of Good Shepherd congregation;
  • build community within and beyond the congregation;
  • deliver information;
  • introduce newcomers to the congregation;
  • have additional contact with members, including those who are homebound or unable to attend;
  • publicize, invite and register people to events;
  • provide a place to gather for online fellowship.

The term “social media” refers to tools that integrate technology, telecommunications and social interaction. Examples include, but are not limited to Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Information displayed on Good Shepherd’s social media sites is intended solely for the ministries of the congregation and its proclamation of the gospel. Please be respectful and do not use these sites for personal, partisan or business purposes, or in ways that might share members’ information with outside parties. It is important you always identify yourself and show respect for others on our sites even if you disagree with them. It is important that you are certain all information posted is accurate. Any comments or posts deemed inappropriate will be removed without notification. To determine what is appropriate, ask yourself: Does my comment or post further the ministry of GSLC and its proclamation of the gospel? Would I stand before my congregation or members I have named and say the same thing? How might my comment or post be perceived? Remember that anything carelessly said on Good Shepherd’s social media sites could potentially harm the mission or reputation of the congregation.

Photos will be used freely on our social media sites. If you do not want your photo posted, please make every attempt to remove yourself from the scene about to be photographed. Photos of children and youth under the age of 18 will not be posted without the written consent of a parent or guardian, and photos of children or youth under the age of 18 will not be captioned with full names. If any picture of you that you find objectionable appears on a GSLC site, please notify the Media Coordinator and it will be taken off the site(s) as quickly as possible.
