Hurricane Harvey

How Can We Help?

(reprinted from the Southeaster Synod website – https://sites.google.com/a/elca-ses.org/elca/home/disaster-ministry)

Pray and keep praying – When we pray we keep those for whom we pray in our hearts and in our minds and lift them to God for healing and help. Healing from this disaster will take a long time. In flood recovery, those who have been impacted often fade from people’s attention once the waters recede and another disaster comes along. Like in grief, the greatest need often surfaces after everyone goes home. Keeping them in our prayers also urges us to act holistically….with our bodies and our talents and our resources. That takes us to the next thing we can do….

Volunteer – Go to help with clean up and rebuild! Gather with others who desire to help. Form a team to begin planning trips to the impacted areas to help people dig out of the muck and rebuild their lives. Contact John Boettner, Southeastern Synod Disaster Ministry Committee, at jfboettner@hotmail.com or Al Kates, Lutheran Services of Georgia Disaster Coordinator, at akates@lsga.onmicrosoft.com, for more information.

Donate funds – Right now funds are critical. You can learn more about what is happening in Texas and Louisiana, and what the needs are, by reading these posts from Bishop Michael Rinehart, Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod and from Bishop Ray Tiemann, Southwestern Texas Synod. Please donate what you can to either synod in Texas or to Lutheran Disaster Response for Hurricane Harvey. Any disaster gifts sent directly to the Southeastern Synod for Hurricane Harvey will be forwarded on to the affected synods.
